ABOUT GECKO SKATE

Born in Jervis Bay, NSW.

Gecko Skate, our local skate store - online.

Jervis Bay has been keeping a secret; a skate culture spanning 30+ years. And unless you were around back in the day you might not have noticed 'til now. With JB being a well-known beachy tourist spot, you'd think the skateboards of the cities would be ditched for surfboards, but these locals might surprise you...
It's the sound of rolling wheels & kick flips in the Coles carpark, there's some decent hills to be bombed, and that long path between Husky & Vinnie that screams 'cruise me'. You'll find the groms and the old school skaters at Sanga bowl, and everyone yelling from the roof tops (since 1993) that we need a new skate park!

Pete & Grace have poured everything into this skate shop & we can't wait to watch it grow into the south coast's leading skate spot. We're a small family business that would not be where we are without endless support from our family and especially our kids. We're proud of this online store and the response that it's gained so far.

Gecko Skate is determined to grow and support the local skate scene here on the South Coast. With no dedicated local skate shop between Ulladulla & Wollongong we've been wanting to do this for years, and 2022 presented itself as the best time for us to bring Gecko Skate out of the shadows & onto your screens (for now...)

skateboarding is only getting bigger, and we're here for it.

  • It looks like Council heard the calls for a skatepark in our area, and have finally acted on it with the design of the Bay and Basin Skate Park. *UPDATE* Unfortunately, following a council meeting in late March 2024 we have been informed that the Bay and Basin Leisure Centre refurbishment plans have been placed on pause for the forseeable future. This includes the Bay & Basin Skate Park Project. Another notable motion from this council meeting was the decision to place the 'skate parks and pump tracks investigation, planning and design works' at Sussex Inlet, Sanctuary Point, Bomaderry and Worrigee on pause until the Council’s financial position improves. At Gecko Skate we're determined to see this happen for our community & will keep you updated as much as we can about future plans when they become available. The new skate park site will be right by the Bay & Basin Leisure Centre in Vincentia, designed by CONVIC in 2019, in conjunction with Shoalhaven City Council.

  • News that the new skate park won't be going ahead in the near future has diminished our shine a bit, but if it's skaters we know, then we know our community will cop this one on the chin until we get what we've been asking for. Regardless of how long it will take council to pull money out of... the sky... to fund this much needed outlet for our skaters, we couldn't be more pumped (and hopeful) to see this project go ahead & provide a space for the skate community to thrive in and around Vincentia. We're hoping to see some local talent come out of having a facility like this in our town. The possibilities are endless, and with Skateboarding introduced to the Olympics' catalogue in Tokyo 2020 (2021) there is more exposure and recognition of our sport to mainstream now more than ever. We're looking forward to Gecko Skate growing into a local household name, and being able to support skaters through sponsorships & local events over the next 12 months and further in the future. Stick around - there's so much more to come.
